Why You Want Comprehensive Lifestyle Intervention to be a part of your Weight Loss Program?
Helps ensure Sustainability: By focusing on long-term changes rather than quick fixes, it promotes sustainable weight loss and helps prevent yo-yo dieting. Statistics demonstrate that most people who lose weight will regain it within a couple of years. Our goal is to help you be one of the few who learn how to keep it off long-term!
Improves Overall Health: This approach not only aids in weight loss but also enhances overall health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and dementia.
Guidelines for Comprehensive Lifestyle Intervention
To help our patients embark on a successful comprehensive lifestyle intervention, in our medical weightloss program, we have implemented the following guidelines:1. Personalized Plan: We recognize that every individual is unique. A plan that works for one person may not work for another. We will tailor the intervention to fit personal preferences, health conditions, and lifestyle.
2. Balanced Nutrition: We will help you learn how to adopt a balanced diet that provides essential nutrients while creating a calorie deficit. Our plan will likely focus on whole foods, such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains, and limit the intake of processed foods, sugary beverages, and high-fat items. However, we can accommodate any dietary restrictions and help you find a way to create a healthy plan for weight loss.
3. Regular Physical Activity: We will encourage you to incorporate a mix of aerobic, strength training, and flexibility exercises into your routine. The long term goal will be to aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of high-intensity exercise each week, as recommended by health authorities. But that is not where you will start. We will evaluate your readiness and any current physical challenges you have.
4. Behavioral Changes: We will work with you on modifying behaviors that contribute to weight gain. This may involve setting realistic goals, tracking food intake and physical activity, managing stress, and seeking support from friends, family, or professionals.
5. Psychological Support: Address emotional and psychological factors that affect eating habits and body image. If you have a diagnosis of disordered eating you must be in active treatment and be stable prior to embarking on our programs. For known issues with emotional eating, we will work with you to learn healthy ways of handling emotions that do not involve food. Please consider working with a counselor as well.
6. Close Monitoring: We will regularly monitor your progress and adjust your plan as needed. We will likely recommend that you use tracking tools such as food logs, journals, exercise tracking smart watches etc.
